The next 7 months flew by. As a person who LOVES to take pictures, I made sure that I had reliable camera. You know the phrase, "take a picture, it will last longer?" Well, there is some truth to that. I wanted something that was compact and light, and yet would take excellent pictures. My traditional DSLR, is fairly bulky and heavy, and I felt that carrying around a telephoto lens would weigh me down. I bought a compact camera with interchangeable lens (used a 16-50 mm lens and a 55-210 mm lens), external flash, 16 GB SD card, and extra batteries. My camera even had a screen that would flip up so you could take selfies until your little heart was content. I was ready to travel light, and take as many pictures as possible. You will find slide shows on each page of the different destinations from day to day included on the tour, and during my free time. You will also find some "funny picture or pictures of the day" on most days. My sister's boyfriend asked her to do some funny poses in front of different famous places. You will see the Heisman, Karate Kid, an Irish dance move, and walking like an Egyptian.
If you are a person who enjoys taking pictures, think about what you want to capture on your trip, and what is going to be the best option for you. If you are ok with carrying around a heavy DSLR with several lenses, and that is what you are comfortable with, then take it. If you want to travel lighter, then do some research on the different, smaller cameras that are out there. Camera technology has come a long way. You may only get one opportunity to travel to this destination, and you don’t want to miss a moment. Since I love pictures so much, you will find multiple slideshows throughout my webpage that chronicles our journey.
I knew that there would be a lot of walking over the week of this tour. One thing that is important to me whether I am traveling or lounging at home is being COMFORTABLE. With that said, I made sure that I had a reliable pair of running shoes that I could wear everywhere, comfortable and non-restricting clothing, and different options for jackets. I also brought compression stockings for the long flight, and long days of walking, and a pedometer to track my miles walked. Check out each day to find out how far I walked. I may not have been the most stylish traveler, but I was comfortable.
This was the first time my dad was traveling to a country where he would need a passport. He was so excited when his came in the mail. He and I drove to Seattle the day before our flight left. We met my sister, who lives there, and we departed November 21, 2014. We took a short trip to Iceland for a short layover, and then onto Paris. We arrived November 22, 2014. We took a taxi ride to our hotel. We opted to stay in a different hotel than the one that we would be staying at for the tour. It was only around the corner, so it was a short walk on Sunday.
